Canyon Country
Autumn Color Workshop
November 5-7, 2010 --
My most popular workshop.
Join
me for Autumn in Zion
National Park which will be our center for a 3-day refreshing
and challenging workshop in one of America's most amazing desert
canyons.
Few places combine the permanence of
landscape color with the intensity of seasonal changes as Zion
National Park in Autumn. This easily accessible area offers
accommodations to match any preference in Springdale,
Utah just outside Zion National Park. Day trips will
venture into the many canyon recesses for stimulating
field work. Autumn is particularly stunning here, with
abundant Autumn leaf color and spectacular landscapes
for variety. This desert realm ranges from about 3,800
feet to over 7,000 foot elevations which makes for
exhilarating photography and recreational opportunities.
We will take advantage of the dramatic qualities of
early and late light for engaging our photographic
subject each day.
We will take advantage of the middle of each day to explore the
photographic process in informal instructional settings. Ample time
will be available for personal explorations at each photographic
opportunity.
Limited class size allows personal
instruction in a vacation atmosphere. We will consider preparation,
subject selection, visualization, composition for expression,
special attention to close-up technique and useful equipment.
Available natural light will be emphasized. We will also study the
photographic process from a general naturalist perspective and
environmental sensitivity. Important to the photographic process is
a sense of passion and fun. Participants are encouraged to engage
the subject for a personal exploration to reflect their emotional
response in each image and enjoy the total experience of field
photography.
