NEW!  High Desert Wildflowers
April 30, May 1 & 2- 2010

Join me at the end of April and make wonderful new photographs of desert wildflowers in a spectacular part of the west.  The southwest corner of Utah brings the Mojave desert to meet the Great Basin Desert and the Colorado Plateau.  This confluence brings together plants from each region for great variety in a most picturesque setting.  Unlock the essence and mystery of making ridiculously beautiful pictures of some of natures most elegant wildflowers in my 3-day High Desert Wildflower Photography Workshop.

We will find many cactus, daises, bladder pods, poppies as well as the possibilities to photography some of America's rarest and endangered plants.  We will seek for Siler's Pincushion Cactus and the Dwarf Bear Claw Poppy.  Like many rare plants, these species grow only on specific soil types and nowhere else in the world.

Of course most of the wildflowers we will enjoy are quite common and all are lovely.  The Purple Torch cactus, the Pineapple Barrel (named for its shape), Indigo, Fremont Phacelia, Townsendia, and Beaver-tail Prickly Pear Cactus.

Limited class size allows personal instruction in a vacation atmosphere.  We will consider preparation, subject selection, visualization, composition for expression, special attention to close-up technique and useful equipment.  Available natural light will be emphasized.  We will also study the photographic process from a general naturalist perspective and environmental sensitivity.  Important to the photographic process is a sense of passion and fun.  Participants are encouraged to engage the subject for a personal exploration to reflect their emotional response in each image and enjoy the total experience of field photography.

About the Instructor
As a life-long westerner, Marv Poulson, instructor and naturalist, has photographed extensively throughout the 11 western states during his four decade photographic career. His intimate knowledge of the nature, natural light, western seasons, and locations gives Marv rare photographic instincts. His award-winning images have gained recognition in a variety of local and national publications, with many images held in both private and corporate collections nation-wide. Marv’s affable nature, love for the outdoors and passion for photography translate into easy-going interaction between with every participant and a sincere interest in providing a positive, fun and educational experience for all involved.

Location Information
Join Marv Poulson in Spring time (April 30, May 1 & 2- 2010) in Utah's 'Dixie', the lowest elevation and warmest corner of the state.  Here we will venture into badlands, mountains, canyons and valleys near St. George, Utah to discover many desert beauties.  This bustling and fast growing desert city will serve as our base to explore nearby areas full of wildflowers of the High Desert.
