Slot
Canyon Light
(Workshop #108)
May
23, 24 & 25

'Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon'
Registration Information
For my May 2008
Slot Canyon
Digital Photography Workshop
In the heart of Utah's Red Rock
country, unlock the essence and mystery of making pictures in
some of the most varied accessible slot canyons - May
23, 24 & 25
near Escalante Utah.
May is a perfect time to
explore these slot canyons with wonderful temperatures,
great weather, and low flash flood conditions.
It is the flash floods
that gather and gush against bare
rock, the erosive power scours channels, ever widening to become canyons. Cracks
and soft sections in the rock allow rushing water to cut more quickly down.
Sometimes the channel cuts narrow passages, seemingly wide enough for only the
water. Such narrow passages tempt the adventurous into the slot where light
enters from high above to create wonderful blends of tone and color in a gentle
glow.
This slot canyon workshop
will include Peek-a-Boo, Spooky, Dry Fork
of Coyote Gulch Upper & Lower Narrows, and Brimstone Slot. In
addition, we will visit Calf Creek Falls for another
unique canyon experience.
Limited class size allows personal
instruction in a vacation atmosphere. We will consider preparation,
subject selection, visualization, composition for expression,
special attention to close-up technique and useful equipment.
Available natural light will be emphasized. We will also study the
photographic process from a general naturalist perspective and
environmental sensitivity. Important to the photographic process is
a sense of passion and fun. Participants are encouraged to engage
the subject for a personal exploration to reflect their emotional
response in each image and enjoy the total experience of field
photography.

'Paintbrush'
Registration Information
For my July 2008
Rocky Mountain Wildflowers
Digital Photography Workshop
High on the western
front of the Rocky Mountains wildflower variety includes
more than familiar species from the Rockies. With
the high desert mountains of the Great Basin close at
hand influences from the Columbia Basin also at play,
the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah present wonderful
opportunities for myriad wildflower opportunities.
Nestled in the mountains at 8000 to more than 11,000
feet elevation in the cool mountains at high summer
-
July
25, 26, & 27 we will enjoy outstanding
wildflower photography in
Northern Utah's Rocky Mountains.
While the main emphasis of the
workshop will be the many aspects of photographing wildflowers, the setting we
will be working in also offers splendid mountain views and possible wildlife
encounters. We will take advantage of early light in the meadows, mountain
sides, woodlands and along streams. Close-up and macro photography will be
possible on many species and open fields of mixed and single species will be
available for variety in practicing technique.
My wildflower workshop
includes working in Albion Basin, along Little
Cottonwood Creek, scree slopes of Hidden Peak, Gad
Valley, and adjacent areas of the high Wasatch Mountains
in Little Cottonwood Canyon above Salt Lake City, Utah.
Limited class size allows personal instruction in a
vacation atmosphere. We will consider preparation, subject selection,

Light and Reflections
Digital Photography Workshop
In this amazingly
photogenic canyon, the mystery and magic of the colorful canyon and clear, calm stream
are perfect for making exceptional images - October 10, 11 &
12 in North Central Arizona
Southwest of Flagstaff, and north of Sedona, Arizona, Oak Creek Canyon splits
the Mogollon Rim with high, forested cliffs, and a clear flowing perennial
stream. Dropping
as much as 2,000 feet in some areas, the Rim provides some of the most
far-reaching scenery in Arizona.
Just north of the mid-point of the canyon, West Fork enters. This major
side canyon climbs gently into the Red Rock - Secret
Mountain Wilderness with
long still pools tucked against the Coconino sandstone cliffs where early
morning light reflects surreal images.
The unpretentious looking
canyon quickly presents a unique and deep gorge punctuated with long still pools
glistening with perfect reflections of surrounding features. Vegetation in
this spectacular venue ranges from Ponderosa Pines to Big-tooth Maple and Agave.
Traveling in this wild canyon
during Autumn offers abundant seasonal color with very pleasant temperatures and
generally storm-free weather.
Here the natural features challenge the
