Angels Landing Location in Zion National Park

Zion National Park
Angels Landing rises abruptly near the Virgin River in the heart of Zion Canyon.  This impressive monolith nearly 1500 ft tall connects to the west side of the canyon by a narrow, steep and rugged ridge.  This route allows hikers to traverse to the summit of The Landing for spectacular 360° views.  The inset photograph shows the  breaking clouds of an early winter storm in the light of late afternoon.

Visitors to Zion Canyon often compare the high cliffs, monoliths, and red rock domes to Yosemite with its famous granite cliffs.  Of course Yosemite supports a dense conifer forest while Zion rises at the edge of the Colorado Plateau and Mojave deserts where sparse vegetation and cactus dominate.  As a colorful landscape Zion National Park clearly strikes an impressive pose.  Scenes of this beautiful area can be enjoyed in my National Park Screen Saver and Autumn Colors Screen Saver, and Zion National Park Screen Saver.
